UnitedHealthcare has disabled comments on its social media profiles following a flood of complaints from disgruntled patients after the assassination of its CEO, Brian Thompson. Many users flooded the company's Instagram and Facebook pages with personal grievances, primarily related to denied insurance claims. The posts, which initially allowed users to express their condolences, became a platform for venting frustration over the insurer’s practices. CEO Assassinated Before Major Financial Announcement Thompson, 50, was shot and killed while traveling to New York City for an investor meeting. Days before he was about to reveal UnitedHealthcare's 2025 financial projection, which included anticipated sales of over $450 billion, he was assassinated on Wednesday. Although investigators discovered bullets at the crime site with the words "deny," "defend," and "depose," the cause for the murder is still unknown. The bullets' inscriptions have been compared to Jay M. Feinman's book 'Delay, Deny, Defend', which discusses the purported strategies employed by health insurance to evade paying claims. The language of the bullets raises the possibility of a connection between UnitedHealthcare's commercial activities and the killing. Social Media Backlash Grows UnitedHealthcare swiftly shared a message on social media expressing their sorrow at Thompson's passing in response to the public criticism. He was called a “highly respected colleague and friend” in the statement, which sparked swift criticism. The firm's practices were condemned in hundreds of comments, many of which accused the corporation of unfairly rejecting insurance claims, according to The Daily Mail's report. One Instagram user expressed their annoyance by posting about a coworker who, despite being a registered nurse with a cancer diagnosis, refused to have a PET scan. A former orthopedic specialist was cited as the "expert" in a different Facebook post that described how a husband's prescription for an asthma medication was denied. The corporation blocked commenting on its latest posts as the number of complaints increased. According to the Daily Mail, this action seemed to be an attempt to stop Thompson's reputation from being further damaged as comments kept coming in, many of which made fun of the company's statement. Mockery and Condemnation When people posted the CEO's obituary, which had become the subject of mockery, the response against UnitedHealthcare took a more sardonic tone. A few individuals referenced the company's contentious regulations in their critical remarks. One user said, "Maybe stop denying healthcare," while others referred to the circumstance as "karma" for the CEO's responsibility to supervise the business's claims procedures, The Daily Mail reported. Thompson’s Family Responds Thompson's family published a statement expressing their profound sadness at his passing. According to the family, Thompson was a dedicated father to two kids and a "incredibly loving, generous, talented man." Citing the emotional toll of the assassination, they asked for solitude while they coped with the devastating loss. After their divorce, a message requesting solitude was posted in Thompson's $1.1 million mansion, which was only a mile from his wife's $1.5 million home. Investigation Into the Assassination Continues Law enforcement is currently looking for Thompson's killer as part of the continuing investigation into his death. The suspect fled the scene on what police assume to be an e-bike, according to surveillance evidence. Later, authorities learned that the attacker had checked into a hostel in New York City using an ID. At the site of the shooting, investigators also discovered a water bottle with a smeared fingerprint on it. Despite the fingerprint's inconclusiveness, authorities are still investigating all leads. According to sources, the murder weapon may be a contemporary model of a rare World War II weapon. A phone that the suspect left behind is also being accessed by investigators. While it was a problem when the eatery opened in 2022, Leith said things have improved this year. “In the last six months whoever has been in charge of that area has been doing a good job of keeping it cleaned up,” he said. Leith speculated that the Elgin and Rideau Street locations might have been too close together. “ It might have split our client base up a little bit,” he said. The Rideau Street closure puts about a dozen employees out of work less than three weeks before Christmas. BASE , the developer data platform for critical applications in our AI world, today announced financial results for its third quarter ended October 31, 2024. "I'm pleased with the continued operational progress of the entire Couchbase team," said Matt Cain , Chair, President and CEO of Couchbase. "We delivered top- and bottom-line results that exceeded our outlook, and we achieved another significant milestone with Capella, which now represents 15.1% of our ARR and one third of our customer base. Third Quarter Fiscal 2025 Financial Highlights Revenue: Total revenue for the quarter was $51.6 million , an increase of 13% year-over-year. Subscription revenue for the quarter was $49.3 million , an increase of 12% year-over-year. Annual recurring revenue (ARR): Total ARR as of October 31, 2024 was $220.3 million , an increase of 17% year-over-year, or 16% on a constant currency basis. WASHINGTON — After leading the second impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump and then serving as a member of the select Jan. 6 committee, Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) is readying for a new role come January: Democrat’s lead constitutional watchdog in Congress. This week, after relinquishing his party’s top slot on the House Oversight Committee, Raskin looks to have secured the ranking member position on his chamber’s all-important Judiciary Committee. The committee jockeying doesn’t mean he thinks there won’t be any action in Oversight under the incoming Trump administration. “Oh, I think it's going to be all over the place,” Raskin told Raw Story at the Capitol Friday. “It's like they tell the little kids in soccer, ‘don't bunch, spread out’ — we need people everywhere, you know, defending constitutional institutions and principles.” After Trump shocked the Democrats by winning the popular vote in November, they are reassessing some of their party’s lesser-known leaders on Capitol Hill. On Monday, Raskin infuriated 17-term Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) by challenging him for the top slot on the Judiciary Committee, but by Wednesday, Nadler bowed out of the contest because his support withered on the proverbial vine. That leaves a clear lane for the four-term Marylander to secure the blessing of Democratic leaders when they meet on Tuesday to officially decide the face of their party in some of Congress’ hottest committees. As a constitutional lawyer by trade, Raskin says his skills will be more beneficial to his party atop the sometimes arcane legal committee on Capitol Hill. “The assault on the federal workforce and the professional civil service are likely to be headquartered in Oversight, but the attack on the Justice Department, the FBI and the rule of law are going to be centered in the Judiciary Committee,” Raskin said. After Trump and the GOP expanded their electoral appeal in November, Raskin says he hopes to start a new conversation with the American people — the one his party failed to make stick this election year — when the new administration takes over Washington in the new year. “The problem is that I've not heard of any agenda other than instrumentalizing the Department of Justice and the FBI for purposes of political retaliation and revenge. You know, that's not generally advanced as a proper principle for the U.S. government,” Raskin said. “It’s a sign of how far the discourse has shifted that this has become normalized.” Democrats already successfully sidelined Trump’s initial attorney general nominee, former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), but the new AG nominee — former Trump defense attorney and Florida attorney general Pam Bondi — has Democrats worried as well. And Trump’s pick to lead the FBI, Kash Patel, is the pick that has Democratic lawyers like Raskin really freaking out. “Does Kash Patel — a name we didn’t even know months ago — like, does he worry you particularly?” Raw Story inquired. “He's somebody who embodies the ethos of using the government as a partisan and political instrument for the will of the president,” Raskin said. “Again, that's a massive departure from decades of understanding that the president does not get involved in particular cases, and we have to try to uphold that traditional understanding as much as we can.” “Doesn’t it almost feel like they're becoming the rhetoric they decried?” Raw Story pressed. “Like, they’ve become the lawfare party?” “Bingo,” Raskin replied. “They have been attacking the Department of Justice for ‘lawfare’ and for partisan weaponization as preparation for implementing their own plans to do precisely that. They want to make it seem as if it's somehow normal and bipartisan — it's not. “You really can't find an example of any president — with the potential exception of Richard Nixon — who directed the Department of Justice to engage in criminal investigations and prosecutions targeting his political foes.” With Raskin readying to take over as the top Democrat on the Judiciary Committee, his current vice-ranking member on the House Oversight Committee, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), jumped in the race to replace Raskin as their party’s top Democrat on that high-profile committee. It’s a part of what many Democrats hope is a makeover after the party was trounced this cycle. While ‘inside baseball,’ two other senior Democrats — 11-term Reps. Raul Grijalva (D-AZ) and David Scott (D-GA) — are also being challenged for their party’s top slots atop, respectively, the Natural Resources and Agriculture Committees. Younger congressional Democrats see these shake-ups as essential for the party’s vitality moving forward. As for his plan to play defensive offensive in January, Raskin tells Raw Story he hopes to confront the ‘deep state’ myth that’s metastasized in today’s GOP. “I hope that we're going to be advancing a strong vision of what it means to live in a free and democratic society,” Raskin told Raw Story. “That means playing defense against authoritarian maneuvers and violations of people's rights.”Large Power Station On Wheels Has Many Uses
