In the aftermath of South Korea's deadliest aviation disaster in decades, officials grapple with the challenge of identifying causal factors in the tragic plane crash that claimed 179 lives. The incident has cast a shadow over the nation already mired in political instability. The crash occurred as a Jeju Air Boeing 737-800 descended at Muan International Airport, where it careened off the runway, igniting a fierce inferno. Video evidence suggests potential mechanical failures, but while investigators scour data from flight recorders, a complete understanding may take months. This tragedy exacerbates an existing leadership crisis, following the impeachment of President Yoon Suk Yeol and Prime Minister Han Duck-soo. As the public mourns, concerns escalate about the government's ability to address both the immediate disaster and longstanding safety concerns. Amid backlash, 'ailing' Bushra Bibi to skip Nov 24 'do-or-die' protestFarmers have announced a 'Punjab Bandh' on Monday leading to the expected closure of all shops across the state and disruptions in road and rail services. However, emergency services will continue to operate. There will also be no supply of milk, fruits, and vegetables until the protest ends on Monday evening as several trade organisations lent their support to the bandh. "Farmer union leaders will enforce a chakka jam on roads and rail lines from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Government and private institutions are requested to stay closed. Only emergency vehicles, such as ambulances, marriage vehicles, or anyone in a dire emergency, will be allowed to pass," reports quoted a senior farm leader as saying. The decision to give a call for a 'Punjab bandh' was taken last week by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM). Sarwan Singh Pandher -- who happens to be the coordinator of both forums -- said traders, transporters, employees unions, toll plaza workers, labour, ex-servicemen, Sarpanches and teachers' unions, social and other bodies, and some other sections have lent their support to the bandh. Farmers under the banner of SKM (Non-Political) and KMM have been camping at Shambhu and Khanauri border points between Punjab and Haryana since February 13 after their march to Delhi was stopped by security forces. With Jagjit Singh Dallewal's indefinite hunger strike entering its 34th day on Sunday, farmer leaders at Khanauri said they have been following the Gandhian way to continue their protest and it is up to the government to decide whether it wants to use force to evict their senior leader. He further said the farmers wanted to make it clear that whatever situation arises the responsibility will lie with the Centre and the constitutional bodies. Rail movement and road traffic will remain closed on Monday. In support of the farmers' Bandh call, bus services in Punjab will remain suspended on Monday. While the PRTC bus services will be shut for four hours, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the private bus operators have announced their full support, thus declaring the suspension of services across the state from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday. Besides a legal guarantee on the MSP for crops, the farmers are demanding a debt waiver, pension for farmers and farm labourers, no hike in the electricity tariff, withdrawal of police cases and "justice" for the victims of the 2021 Lakhimpur Kheri violence. Reinstatement of the Land Acquisition Act, 2013 and compensation to the families of the farmers who died during a previous agitation in 2020-21 are also part of their demands. This bandh, the farmer leader said, will force the Centre to accept the demands of farmers. He slammed the Union government for failing to accept the demands of farmers. Farmers under the banner of SKM (Non-Political) and KMM have been camping at Shambhu and Khanauri border points between Punjab and Haryana since February 13 after security forces stopped their march to Delhi. A "jatha" (group) of 101 farmers made three attempts to enter Delhi on foot on December 6, December 8, and again on December 14. Security personnel in Haryana prevented them from proceeding. There will be a complete bandh on December 30, farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher said. However, emergency services will remain operational. Punjab farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher said the call for a 'Punjab bandh' on December 30 is getting good support from various sections. The decision to give a call for a 'Punjab bandh' was taken last week by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha. To ensure the success of the bandh, SKM (Non-political) and KMM convened a meeting of transporters, employees, traders and others at the Khanauri protest site last Thursday. LOS ANGELES (AP) — Eric Bieniemy's return to UCLA lasted only one season. The Bruins let go of Bieniemy on Thursday after fielding one of the nation's worst offenses this season. It didn't take head coach DeShaun Foster long to find a replacement. Indiana quarterbacks coach and co-offensive coordinator Tino Sunseri will become the new Bruins offensive coordinator, a person with knowledge of the decision told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the Bruins had not yet announced the decision. Sunseri spent one season at Indiana after following Hoosiers coach Curt Cignetti from James Madison. Cignetti and Sunseri worked together for four seasons, the first three with the Dukes, who made the most successful transition from FCS to FBS in history. Bieniemy was hired as associate head coach and offensive coordinator shortly after Foster was hired as head coach in February. Bieniemy was also on the Bruins staff from 2003-05 as running backs coach. Jason Fletcher, Bieniemy's agent, said in a statement that Bieniemy planned to stay only one season in Westwood and termed it a “mutual parting of the ways.” However, Bieniemy signed a two-year contract at UCLA and did have a retention bonus if he was on staff for the 2025 season. "After interviewing for head coaching jobs last year, he wanted to stay active and busy," Fletcher said. “So, he decided to go help out Deshaun Foster, who is like his little brother, at UCLA as opposed to sitting out a year.” Out of 134 Football Bowl Subdivision teams, UCLA was 117th in total offense (328.8 yards per game), 126th in scoring (18.4 points per game) and had the nation's fifth-worst rushing attack (86.6 yards per game). The Bruins — 5-7 in their first season in the Big Ten after qualifying for a bowl the last three years — were the sixth Power Five team since 2000 that didn't score at least 20 points in their first six games. Players also said early in the season that Bieniemy's scheme was difficult to grasp and that play calls could be too wordy. Bieniemy was a two-time Super Bowl champion offensive coordinator with the Kansas City Chiefs but his last two stops have not gone well. He was Washington's offensive coordinator in 2023 but was not retained after Ron Rivera was fired. Bieniemy said in an email to ESPN earlier this year that he was not fired by Washington and that he received NFL offers to coach running backs or be a passing game coordinator. However, when asked during UCLA's spring practice to explain those remarks or what his other job prospects were, he refused to do so. “What I’m going say is this: I’m here coaching at UCLA. All that other stuff, you could go talk to the Commanders. I’ll leave it just like that,” he said. Bieniemy wasn’t retained by new Commanders coach Dan Quinn, who replaced Rivera. Despite his success in Kansas City, Bieniemy hasn’t landed a heading coach job, even though he’s interviewed with more than half of the NFL’s 32 teams. Fletcher said: "The plan was always to return to the NFL in 2025, and he’s looking forward to the opportunities ahead.” Sunseri's immediate priority will be to stem any further losses to the transfer portal. Quarterback Justyn Martin — who was on track to compete for the starting job following the graduation of Ethan Garbers — and running back T.J. Harden have already entered the portal. At Indiana, Sunseri worked closely with Kurtis Rourke, a transfer from Mid-American Conference school Ohio. Rourke went on to have one of the best seasons in Hoosiers history as No. 9 Indiana (11-1, 8-1 Big Ten, No. 9 CFP) broke single-season school records for victories and conference wins and appears set to make its CFP debut in two weeks. Sunseri, like Cignetti, also coached previously at Alabama. Sunseri served as a graduate assistant for the Crimson Tide in 2019 and 2020 after previous stints at Florida State and Tennessee. The 35-year-old Sunseri also spent three seasons with the CFL’s Saskatchewan Roughriders, winning a Grey Cup title as a rookie in 2013 following his college career at Pittsburgh. AP college football: https://apnews.com/hub/ap-top-25-college-football-poll and https://apnews.com/hub/college-footballLONDON, Dec. 30, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- StealthCore, a company recognized for developing tools for game modifications, has officially ceased creating scripts for League of Legends. The decision stems from mounting difficulties in circumventing modern anti-cheat systems, particularly Riot Games' Vanguard. The StealthCore team outlined the increasing complexities introduced by current anti-cheat technologies. "Vanguard has fundamentally changed the landscape," a spokesperson stated. "Bypassing these measures now requires intricate modifications, such as adjusting BIOS configurations. Many users lack the technical expertise to handle these steps, and others face hardware limitations, especially on laptops. These challenges have created barriers that significantly impact both developers and users." Vanguard employs sophisticated techniques to prevent unauthorized modifications in gaming environments. Among these are hardware bans enforced through TPM chips, which make circumventing detection increasingly difficult. Even tools designed to evade such restrictions, like spoofers, have a short lifespan and are often rendered ineffective within days of deployment. Additionally, Vanguard's hardware bans, which typically last 120 days, serve as a strong deterrent to repeated infractions. The growing effectiveness of anti-cheat systems underscores the heightened focus on ensuring fair play in online gaming. Developers of modification tools are finding it increasingly difficult to keep pace with the advancements in detection and prevention technologies. As Vanguard continues to secure Windows platforms, some developers have turned their attention to macOS systems, where similar anti-cheat measures are not currently enforced. While this shift provides a potential alternative, its viability is limited. "The number of gamers using macOS for competitive play is minimal," the spokesperson explained. "Few players are likely to invest in a Mac solely for this purpose, making it an impractical solution for most users." Private cheat tools have also seen increased interest. These are typically distributed to a restricted group of users, often capped at 25 participants, to reduce the likelihood of detection. However, their exclusivity and high cost make them inaccessible to the broader gaming community. StealthCore highlighted deceptive practices within this space where public tools are falsely marketed as "private" at elevated prices. "Such claims mislead users," the representative added. "These tools are no safer than public options and often result in quick bans." The cumulative challenges associated with anti-cheat advancements have led to a significant decline in StealthCore's user base, which has reportedly dropped by 95%. In light of these developments, the company has opted to terminate its support for League of Legends scripts entirely. StealthCore's decision mirrors broader trends within the game modification community. As security technologies evolve, the feasibility of creating undetected tools has diminished, signaling a shift toward more secure gaming ecosystems. For players, this change reflects the growing emphasis on integrity and fairness in competitive gaming. The increasing sophistication of anti-cheat systems leaves little room for unauthorized modifications, reinforcing the importance of adhering to established rules. About StealthCore StealthCore has been a longstanding developer of tools for game modifications, recognized for its contributions to enhancing gameplay experiences. The company's decision to discontinue League of Legends scripts underscores its acknowledgment of the challenges posed by evolving security technologies and its alignment with the broader movement toward fair play in gaming. Tune in to ISRO’s live stream to witness this historic event as India attempts its first-ever space docking experiment. New Delhi: India is on the verge of creating a history in space research as ISRO is all set to launch the PSLV-C60 mission to include the Space Docking Experiment (SpaDeX). This challenging mission is planned for December 30, 2024, with the use of two satellites that will be weighing 220 kg each; Chaser (SDX01) and Target (SDX02). These satellites will try to rendezvous at an orbit of 470 kilometres above the Earth, which will demonstrate India’s capability in performing advanced space manoeuvres. The launch will be done by the successful Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV), which reveals the technology and versatility of the satellite. This mission is a historic moment for India since the nation has now become the fourth country in the world to achieve space docking after Russia, the United States and China. Apart from the technical aspect, SpaDeX is a strategic plan to further the Indian space mission, the human space flight mission Gaganyaan, future lunar missions and the concept of the Bharatiya Antariksh Station (BAS), the proposed Indian space station. The mission is expected to enhance the global position of India in the space industry along with the innovation and technical knowledge. Watch Live as PSLV-C60 Embarks on Revolutionary SpaDeX Mission Here SpaDeX: A Jump Towards Future Space Ventures SpaDeX is not just a technological advancement; it is a very important milestone towards several other projects in the offing. The docking system that has been used in the mission conforms to international docking standards, showing how ISRO is willing to embrace compatibility and innovation. These capabilities are required for future missions such as the Chandrayaan-4, which is planned to collect samples from the moon, and for the development of the BAS, which is proposed to be a long-term facility for scientific exploration and habitation. Besides docking, PSLV’s fourth stage, POEM-4, will carry 24 scientific experiments and add to the scientific importance of the mission. These experiments are meant to observe different occurrences in space, making the mission cheap and all-round. It also provides a way forward to other future applications like servicing satellites, formation flying, and construction of large space structures and repositions India as a front runner in space technology. Consistent with Strategy to Optimize Business Portfolio and Enhance Free Cash Flow PITTSBURGH , Dec. 5, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- Koppers Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Koppers Holdings Inc. KOP , today announced that the company will discontinue phthalic anhydride production at its facility in Stickney, Illinois , in 2025. The decision, affecting approximately 25 employees, was driven by significant near-term capital spending requirements that could not be economically justified by end-market projections. An ancillary benefit is an improvement in the site's environmental footprint as annual emissions of certain regulated air contaminants are expected to be reduced by 50 to 70 percent. Koppers has targeted mid-2025 for the shutdown and expects to ramp down production of phthalic anhydride over the next six months as the company builds inventory to supply existing contracts through 2025, as necessary. The closure of the phthalic anhydride plant will not impact Stickney's coal tar distillation operations, which manufacture products including creosote, carbon pitch and pavement sealer base. The phthalic anhydride plant at Stickney was constructed to consume naphthalene, a byproduct of the coal tar distillation process, as a feedstock to produce the chemical intermediate used to manufacture plasticizers, polyester resins, and alkyd paints. As availability of coal tar has declined, phthalic anhydride has become less profitable as lower naphthalene production resulted in a need to supplement production with a greater proportion of higher-cost third-party feedstock. This action is expected to result in pre-tax charges to earnings of $51 million to $55 million through the end of 2026. Approximately $28 million constitutes non-cash charges anticipated to be recorded in 2024 and 2025 with approximately $23 million to $27 million over the next two years going toward cash expenditures, primarily for plant cleaning, waste disposal, and demolition costs. Ongoing operational and capital expenditure savings have been incorporated into the company's current 2025 goals of $300 million of adjusted EBITDA and $65 million to $75 million of capital expenditures. Koppers CEO Leroy Ball said , "The decision to close the phthalic anhydride plant demonstrates our ongoing willingness to critically assess our portfolio and pivot from underperforming businesses when it is clear that improvement is not on the horizon. By focusing on our core strengths, we can continue to enhance our competitive position in healthier markets to drive better long-term returns. Ceasing operations at any plant is never easy, however, this will improve the performance, efficiency, and emissions profile at Stickney . I want to thank our dedicated employees who have worked hard over the years to serve our customers with quality products. I am mindful of the impact this decision has on them and am committed to ensuring that they are supported through this transition." After Trump's Project 2025 denials, he is tapping its authors and influencers for key rolesJust kidding! Minister insists Trump was only joking about Canada as the 51st US stateBy Bharath Rajeswaran (Reuters) -India’s benchmark indexes fell marginally at the start of the week, dragged by information technology and auto stocks, in thin volume trade ahead of the end of 2024. The Nifty 50 shed 0.16% to 23,775.1 points as of 9:56 a.m. IST, while the BSE Sensex was down 0.14% to 78,585.56. Seven of the 13 major sectors fell. The broader, more domestically focussed smallcaps and midcaps were little changed. “Persistent concerns such as sustained foreign institutional investor outflows, diminishing expectations of U.S. rate cuts in 2025 and a lack of major domestic triggers amid the year-end are weighing on market sentiment,” said Mandar Bhojane, research analyst at Choice Broking. India’s benchmark indexes rose about 1% last week after dropping about 5% in the prior week, their worst fall in 30 months, as the Federal Reserve’s projection of fewer rate cuts in 2025 lowered the appeal of emerging market assets. Asian shares edged lower on Monday as high Treasury yields challenged lofty Wall Street equity valuations while underpinning the U.S. dollar near multi-month peaks. Information technology companies, which earn a significant share of their revenue from the U.S., shed 0.7% on the day, amid sustained foreign outflows due to elevated Treasury yields. Auto shares lost 0.5% ahead of the monthly sales data due later in the week. Among individual stocks, JSW Energy climbed 6.6% after the power producer announced a definitive agreement to acquire renewable power company O2 Power Midco Holdings. Vodafone Idea rose 2.6% after telecom department dispensed with the requirement of submitting bank guarantees for spectrum acquired through auctions. Electric two-wheeler maker Ola Electric Mobility lost 3% following the resignations of two senior executives. Choice Broking’s Bhojane expects the market to remain subdued in the near term as investors await triggers such as monthly auto sales data and the December quarter earnings. NoneIn 2023, East Central University announced the launch of a campaign that would see the construction of a new STEM Center on the ECU campus that would also house the ECU Nursing Program. The groundbreaking for this new state-of-the-art facility was over the summer with representatives from the State of Oklahoma, City of Ada, Valley View Foundation and Chickasaw Nation in attendance. ECU is pleased to announce that this newest addition to the university’s campus will be named in honor of Chickasaw citizen Dan Hays. “We are pleased East Central University is honoring Chickasaw citizen Dan Hays, whose generosity and vision of the future has had a powerful impact on education throughout the Ada area, the Chickasaw Nation and beyond,” said Chickasaw Nation Governor Bill Anoatubby. “It is fitting that ECU’s new STEM center should bear the Hays name as a tribute and testament to his commitment to lifelong learning and education.” Hays, who possessed an allotment of 320 acres of land across what is now Ada, recognized the significance of establishing what was then named East Central State Normal School in the region. Following approval for the normal school by Gov. Charles N. Haskell in 1909, Hays quickly stepped forward to donate 16 acres of his land, his only stipulation being that he be allowed to remain in his home, which was also located on the 16-acre allotment. The chosen acreage, allotted by Hays, allowed for ECU’s first building, Science Hall, to be constructed at the end of Ada’s Main Street. An article featured in the May 6, 1909, edition of the Ada Evening News reported by Col. E.H. Lucas stated, “The acceptance of the proposed site will mean that the normal school would be located in that magnificent location, avenue style, at the end of East Main Street. From this point, the view could not be more excellent. To stand in the center of the business section of Main Street and look at the point proposed for the location on the east side must bring from anyone an involuntary expression of approval, for it is the prettiest site I ever saw.” Construction quickly began and the students of East Central Normal School were blessed to begin their second year of classes in their very own building by the fall semester of 1910, thanks to the generous donation of Dan Hays. In honor of Hays significant contribution and the longstanding relationship that it helped forge between ECU and the Chickasaw Nation, ECU President Wendell Godwin has announced that the university’s newest addition will be named in honor of Hays himself. “We are proud to embrace the Native American legacy on our campus, and this is an excellent way to memorialize the original gift from the Hays family,” said Godwin. “The Chickasaw Nation has been a driving force in the region’s educational successes for decades. East Central University is excited to highlight the native theme and décor that will be illustrated throughout the Dan Hays STEM Center to further demonstrate our appreciation. Our community is excited to watch the construction over the next 18 months.” Among the highlights of this two-floor facility is a simulation center, more than 25 hands-on learning labs and STEM classrooms equipped with the latest technology to benefit both STEM and Nursing students. The construction of this new building and the expansion of the nursing program are expected to generate a 200% increase in nursing graduates from ECU. Historically, 84% of nursing graduates stay in Oklahoma five years after graduation and 75% of students are accepted into medical school. Nursing, Math and Computer Science are some of the university’s largest and fastest-growing degree programs. The average pass rate for the ECU School of Nursing on the registered nurses NCLEX (National Council Licensure Examination) is 97% while the national average is 82%. This expansion will allow ECU to recruit a number of new staff and faculty as well as more than 200 new nursing students to the university and community. The new facility will serve to reaffirm ECU’s commitment to educating students and transforming students’ lives for generations to come.

Apple has banned the sale of many iPhone models including iPhone 14 in some European countries. They cannot be purchased from anywhere online or offline. iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus and iPhone SE (3rd generation) have been removed from online stores. This decision of Apple is also being seen in relation to the use of Lightning connector by the European Union. iPhone banned: Apple has decided to ban the sale of iPhone in some countries. The company is going to stop the sale of three iPhone models including iPhone 14 in many countries of Europe. According to the report, iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus and iPhone SE (3rd generation) have been removed from the online stores of many European countries. That is, now they cannot be purchased online. Apple has imposed this ban especially on iPhone and other devices equipped with Lightning port. Offline sales also banned It has also been told that the iPhone models whose sale has been banned by Apple cannot be purchased online as well as offline. This decision of Apple is also being seen in relation to the use of Lightning connector by the European Union. Apple was asked by the EU long ago to install Type C port in its device. Since then Apple worked on it and now all its iPhones are coming with Type C port. The same charging port has been given in Apple’s most advanced iPhone 16. How did Apple accept the EU’s Let us tell you, in 2022, the EU had said that smartphones and some electronic devices sold in 27 member countries should be equipped with USB Type-C ports for charging. The EU’s aim behind doing this was to reduce electronic waste. Initially, Apple refused to do so and also challenged it. However, after a long dispute, Apple finally had to agree to the EU. After this, the company started providing USB Type-C port facility in all devices. It is worth noting that iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus and iPhone SE (third generation) do not have USB-C ports. Therefore, Apple has decided to ban their sale. Ban on sales in these countries Apple is in the process of clearing its inventory in many countries. The company has stopped selling these iPhones in Austria, Finland, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, France, Italy, Ireland, Netherlands, Sweden and other countries. Interestingly, Switzerland is not a member of the EU. But still Apple has banned the sale of three iPhone models in the country. Apart from this, these devices will not be able to be purchased in Northern Ireland as well. iPhone 17 Air in discussion These days there is a lot of discussion about iPhone 17 Air. It is being said that this time the company can replace its Plus model with the Air model. According to the report, this model of Apple will be the thinnest iPhone ever. The state’s top road safety bureaucrat has rejected suggestions that new high-tech cameras that can catch wrongdoers on West Australian roads en masse are revenue-raisers. Road Safety Commissioner Adrian Warner joined Road Safety Minister David Michael on Monday to announce the rollout of the six mobile cameras from Australia Day. Road Safety Commissioner Adrian Warner and Road Safety Minister David Michael. The smart cameras, leased for five years at a cost of $22 million, can easily spot motorists using their phones or driving without a seatbelt and will be deployed to deter the behaviours that make up a large reason for so many of the fatalities on WA roads. A camera pointed at just one lane on the Kwinana Freeway near Salter Point last month spotted more than 6300 people using their mobiles while driving, and 5100 not wearing their seatbelts. Had that camera been used to issue fines, it could have netted the Road Trauma Trust account anywhere from $5 million to $10 million, depending on the severity of the offences. The rollout of the new cameras will coincide with a three-month grace period where motorists breaking the law will be issues with a caution instead of a fine. Warner said this demonstrated the cameras were not about revenue-raising, but changing behaviours. “It’s anything but revenue raising, that’s why we’re doing caution notices,” he said. “This is about drivers changing their behaviour. We have a culture problem. We need to address it, and these cameras are the first step in doing that.” Warner said 99 per cent of people wore seatbelts, but 20 per cent of people who died in crashes weren’t wearing seatbelts. “That should tell you something,” he said. The announcement comes as WA records its worst road toll in almost 10 years, with 182 deaths. Michael said in this context now was the time for the technology to become a vital and permanent tool to be used across the state. “The message is clear and simple: these cameras are coming, slow down, buckle up and put your phone away,” he said.
